The Altcoin Rises

O n May 11 2020, the crypto world experienced the phenomena knows as Bitcoin halving . For those who are still a little looney-toons regarding this phenomena, here's the lowdown . Moral of the story is that, as the Bitcoin supply decreased and it's 21 million market cap slowly approached, it was widely accepted that the low supply and high demand will increase the price of the cryptocurrency back to its previous highs. Basic business right? Wrong! Source: Equity Trust Company BTC prices actually fell and after briefly holding steady, are only just rising above the 10000 USD range. Surprise eh? Well, we are not done yet. Because while the most valuable crypto coin wasn't showing it's expected gains, some other cryptocurrencies shot to outer space. There was no SpaceX rocket nor a Tesla Roadster involved. These "altcoins" bumped up in their market value thanks to the entire underlying system of cryptocurrency: investor speculation.  But what exactly are these ...

Not Everything Sucks In This Pandemic

If COVID-19 was a YouTube channel, it would be pretty darn happy right now. Imagining starting your vlogging career in December 2019 and now, 6 months into 2020 having well over 10 million subscribers? What a big hit! Unfortunately, unlike perhaps Pewdiepie vs T.Series, no one really wants to subscribe to a global pandemic. Cause in a standard YouTube channel, however dumb it may be, the worst-case scenario is wasted time of 10 -20 mins. Not death. COVID-19 leads to death. Not a channel you want to subscribe to. The pandemic has ruined our day to day lives to an extent never seen before by this generation. But even in these dark days, our world still moves on and creates some great news to warm our hearts A man receives a knighthood for walking around his garden That's right. Screw the Olympics. You complete a few laps around your garden and Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II will put a shiny sword on your neck twice. I jest of course, as these were no ordinary laps, and completed by ...

The McLaren Speedtail is Egregiously Elegant

Form follows function.   That has been McLaren's mantra ever since its humble beginnings less than a decade ago. If producing a  supercar  as your first ever car can be called humble. They made the F1 in the '90s and partnered with Mercedes-Benz to give birth to the SLR's with its various editions in the early 2000s but the proper start of the organization only began in 2010, with a car name more apt for the Musk family, the MP4-12C. However, in just 8 years the brand has gone from strength to strength. And massively improved their naming system. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you the pinnacle of McLaren Automotive: the Speedtail. Source: Google Images The Speedtail is a part of McLaren's Ultimate Series lineup and it's the evolution of McLaren's DNA which began with the 12C, followed by the 650 S, the 500 series, P1, the 720 S and the Senna. As you can see, the cars in McLaren's lineup not only became a lot easier to pronounce but more importantly stuck to t...

What Next For Aston Martin?

S acking your CEO is a great way to boost investor confidence. Just ask Aston Martin. After their CEO, Andy Palmer, was 'arrghed' of the 'ship' a-la Boss Baby style, the British brand's share price went up over 30 %. To any business shareholder reading this, this may seem like a quick way to make money . That is if you conveniently ignore the fact that under Mr Palmer's tenure Aston's share fell by 98%.  Source: Livemint But sure, any improvement is a good improvement, right? Improvement is a key part of the Aston Martin story. The Gaydon based manufacturer has gone bankrupt almost 8 times in its 107-year history ( Someone should give them the 'Trump: Art of the Deal' book). Thus, in 2014, Andy Palmer was brought in to do some ' improvements'. This Andy here wasn't going to spend his time writing his name on Woody and Buzz Lightyear.  He was tasked to do the good old 'switcheroo' on the company's fortunes. The English man had ...

Will The AirPods 2 achieve Success ...

...Like the AirPods 1? There have been many things in life that have horrified my friend Bryan, but none so more than realizing the iPhone 7 was missing one key element of any standard phone when it was first released: the headphone jack.  This gave him many more sleepless nights than when waiting for his AS level results. You see, Bryan was as entangled in the Apple ecosystem as Flynn Rider was in Rapunzel's hair. He had Macbooks, the Mac Mini, the iPhone 6s and well, the traditional Earpods. And being a gargantuan battery eater, he always had an assortment of power banks, with obvious lightning cables. The only non-Apple thing in his house, besides his clothes or food or books...was the Razer earbuds he used when he preferred quality sound ( even if I told him they were basically gamer related earphones) But the decision of Apple left him stumped. No headphone jack meant he couldn't connect his pair of Razer earphones. He would have to use the tiny in-box don...

A Brief Timeline of The Nadella Era at Microsoft

2014: Takes the CEO Position On 4th February 2014, Satya Nadella was appointed CEO of Microsoft, becoming just the 3rd CEO of the multinational company, after Bill Gates and Steve Ballmer Microsoft begins its first acquisition in the Nadella period by buying Mojang ( best known for its Minecraft game) for USD 2.5 billion.   2014 and 2016 Microsoft starts allying with Linux and in 2016 Microsoft joins a premium Linux Group 2015: Microsoft unveils their first powerful laptop lookalike The Surface Book was the first entry for Microsoft into the laptop market. While still a 2-in-1 it revolutionized the concept of Microsoft devices by actually looking like a laptop. 2016: Surface Studio and new apps for IOS Instead of belittling Apple, Microsoft realized that it was possible to give them Windows-based applications to the 'i' devices. The subsequent releases of apps like Outlook and Powerpoint increased Microsoft's relationship with Apple. Oh...

Will There Be A Shakeup In The 2019 Formula 1 Order ?

The 2018 Formula One season ended with the delightful  ( though not for Nico Hulkenberg ) Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, where Lewis Hamilton yet again powered his Mercedes car past the chequered flag at the floodlit Yas Marina Circuit. It was a poetic end to a season where Hamilton established his dominance, winning his 5th Title and devastating Ferrari fans for yet another season.                           However this year has seen several rejigs in the drivers, with Fernando Alonso announcing his retirement, and Daniel Ricciardo moving to Renault ( after an ironically fraught season with a Renault powered car where he had to abandon races several times). Ferrari and Sauber are performing a swap- with Charles Leclerc heading for the prancing horse and Kimi Raikkonen joining the team who first brought him into Formula 1. Carlos Sainz Jr. joins Mclaren with Pierre Gasly taking Ricciardo's seat at Red Bull. Amon...

Top 5 Laptops Worth Buying

1. HP Spectre 13 2018 When it comes to small form portability and drop-dead gorgeous looks the HP Spectre beats everyone on this list. Oozing spades of class, this is the kind of laptop that could even make your Mac loving friends jealous. The 2018 version predictably comes with Intel's latest Coffee Lake processors  as well as an optional 4K display.  While this list is not in any particular order, the Spectre ( in my opinion ) takes the cake for the best outright. While all the laptops mentioned have superb performance there is no laptop maker that can claim to beat this design. Take the white and silver/rose gold version ( which costs extra)  if you really want to make your mates glare daggers at you in grudging envy.  However it only comes with USB-C ports ( apparently HP does give dongles in the box but there are many conflicting reports over this) and since it's so thin battery life takes a hit. SSD performance is also nowhere close to a comparable Mac...

The Week's Top Ten

This list is in no particular order 1. Mercedes AMG Project One wearing zebra undies in the UK The flagship car of the Mercedes Group, the AMG Project One was caught pants down, roaring its way around German companies UK test site. Built to combat the increasing number of supercar/hypercar from its revenue hurting rivals, the Project One is set to slot one step above the AMG GT providing much better performance which naturally comes at a price. And even if you do have the money, you have to prove you have owned over 20 + Mercedes cars in your lifetime. Much selective, But we like. Other camo covered cars are the next-gen Audi R8 and the 600 + hp BMW X6 M. 2. God Of War get beaten by your friendly neighbourhood SpiderMan Sadly I don't live in New York. Nor have I been bitten by a spider. Nor do I have a PS4. But about 4.3 million people with PS4's ( obviously) have now become part of the Spidey Gang. 3.3 million copies sold in 3 days with another 1 million pre-orde...
